Rob Cesternino and Nicole discuss the big shakeup on Survivor South Pacific. When Albert Destrade looked to be on the chopping block he had one last Hail Mary up his sleeve. Albert persuaded Brandon to give up his immunity necklace to him at tribal council, counting on the fact that Coach would never vote against him. That was until Coach prayed to God to tell him who to vote for on Tribal Council. We’ll break down whether Brandon’s Blunder was the dumbest move in the history of Survivor on our latest edition of Rob Has a Podcast.

Time sure flies when you’re having fun and when you’re writing Bloggy-Blogs! This is my third to last Bloggy-Blog!? Oh em gee. As I predicted early on, we are down to the CRABS (Coach, Rick, Albert, Brandon, Sophie) as a final five over at Te Tuna. Over on Redemption Island it is now Ozzy vs. Edna. After the next duel the final 6 will either be the BRACES or the COBRAS. Which would YOU rather see?
AWWWWW FAMILY. Ohhhh the family visit. I have to admit that watching the family visit episodes in my pre-Survivor days was always ‘okay’ for me. It was cool to see the family members but I would wonder why everyone gets soooooo emotional. Isn’t it nice to have a little month vacay from your family? However, after being a part of a Survivor family visit, my appreciation for the whole event has changed drastically. The family visit was probably the best thing I experienced out on the island; it was such an overwhelming and emotional experience to see my Dad walk up those stairs at the duel. Watching this cast see their loved ones out on the island brought back great memories. My dad had such an amazing time and seriously still talks about it every time I hang out with him. It brought us so much closer as dad and daughter and I’m so grateful for every minute of it. With that being said, I have two qualms about this particular family visit.
QUALM #1. Where was Ozzy’s loved one? On my season, the Redemption Island boys at the time (Matt, Mike and Ralph) were able to at least see their loved ones. Remember? Mike won the duel and was faced with the decision of giving away the family visit to the Ometepe 6, giving it to the two other guys on Redemption Island (Matt’s stud muffin brother Burton and Ralph’s farmer friend who was even harder to understand), or keeping it for himself and spending time with his mother. Mike ended up giving the family visit to the people who voted him off, the Ometepe 6 (which was amazing of him). Any whoozles…I was sad that Ozzy didn’t even get the opportunity to see a family member! I guess I was also just curious if he had a hot brother, but that’s just me. Making a choice like that would have been more interesting than Ozzy having to hang out with the crew he chose.
QUALM #2. Seriously? Brandon’s dad had to play the game for him? It was a bit unsettling. Brandon’s dad (Russell’s brother, lest we forget), was practically threatening Coach, and now I’m nervous his strategy talk is going to land him on a season! Oi vey. Family visits should be spent talking about sisters and how your dog is doing, not threatening Dragon Slayers. Besides, we didn’t even get to see any footage of Albert hanging out with his cute Cuban mother!
EDNA THE STAR. Edna was a star this episode. Well, pretty much everyone is a star the episode they are voted out, in some way or another. I was glad she at least attempted to stir things up and used the whole “tribe philosophy” of “loyalty, honesty and integrity” to prove her point that Brandon was the least of those. Also, at least she knew she was 6th in her alliance! Cough cough yes I’m talking about myself. Hey, I wasn’t blessed with a Brandon on my tribe to let me know where I stood! Where was my Brandon?!
COCHRAN- Cochran was so close in that duel! In the inner circle! I really felt moved by Cochran’s departure speech. Here is a real fan that dreamt of competing on his favorite show and made it happen. This guy wore buffs to school—there is no denying he is a super-super fan. What an amazing accomplishment to have made it on to the show and this far. He made us laugh (usually at his expense) and will definitely be remembered for his sense of humor, controversial flippage and knack for finding awesome futon-stumps. Make sure you watch his Ponderosa videos where he plays with a piglet.
I don’t know about you guys, but I am super pumped for next week. Finally, the CRABS, who have been together since that epic night on the beach, have to eat each other. Things are going to get feisty! So who are you guys rooting for on Redemption Island? Do you want Final 6 to be the BRACES or the COBRAS? How will this ‘loyalty’ thing pan out? Have you ever watched Survivor without sound? It’s super awkward. I don’t advise it. I was with my parents at a random pizza place in Chicago and we watched Survivor without sound. It was like watching a season full of Ricks. (I did re-watch the episode later with sound, I’m not *that* lazy.)
This episode was a slightly ‘meh’ for me. It was fairly predictable and I do wish Cochran could have gone farther in the game, especially after his controversial flippage. However it is still Survivor and thusly awesome so I will touch on a few points I found interesting. Cue Bloggy-Blog!
CREEPY OR CUTE? Was this episode slightly creepy? Cochran makes a good point when he said the BRACES are a bit cult-like. I know people on my season were made fun of for being cult-like, but at least we had fun. We had “Stealth R Us” and the “Three Degrees” and everything was kept pretty light and fluffy. This cult is a bit more dramatic. I’d be legitimately nervous to do anything against the family, especially with Brandon Hantz around and especially if I heard that eerie music rolling in.
PRINCE/PRINCESS ALBERT- Okay someone make a decision. Is he Prince Albert or Princess Albert? Not like it really matters in the grand scheme of things but a girl has got to know. Now normally I’d probably look down on laziness, but I’m not actually playing with Albert, and it’s weirdly somewhat endearing. Let’s just say Albert makes lazy look hot. Speaking of HOT, has anyone checked out Sophie lately? She is looking fine…the island really brings out her eyes.
COCHRAN- Darn it. So, I’ve voiced openly that I’m team Cochran, so it was tough to see him go. But unfortunately, the BRACES are strong, and the CRABS are even stronger. He had a few great moments this episode, however. My favorite Cochran moments this episode were when he admitted that he gives his mom massages (joke or not, it’s priceless and I hope it’s true), when he channeled the super awesome Fairplay and lied to his tribe (birthday/ dead Grandma…same things these days), and every time he did a confessional in that futon-stump. I effing love that stump. They should just give Cochran that stump for him to put in his living room.
LOVE AT FIRST SHAKESPEAREAN QUOTE- Coach quoted Shakespeare. I love Shakespeare. I think I may have fell in love with Coach for the first time. Not really, but maybe. Perhaps if I go to the finale and he whispers sweet Shakespearean nothings into my ear I will keep my mind open to the idea.
SO NOW WHAT?! So Cochran is gone. Brandon pretty much told us Edna is going next. Can this pretty please not be the case? I’m really hoping some craziness goes down real soon. All I know is that Ponderosa is going to be awkward central when Cochran arrives. Hopefully Mama Meehan will at least be nice. Let’s face it, it would be awesome if Cochran beats Ozzy in the duel, but Fish Boy is on a mission.
What did you all think? Any final three predictions? Are you sad to see Cochran go? If people are really playing the game, wouldn’t they want to take someone like Cochran to the end? BLOGGY-BLOG 10 – THE HONEST, TRUE, LEGITIMATE BLOGGY-BLOG
Holy smokes, this season is flying! This episode was okay for me, kind of meh. Now that it is down to the Upolu 6 and Cochran I’m sure things will get more interesting. Bring on the end-game and bring on the Bloggy-Blog!
BRODEMPTION ISLAND- Jim arrives at Brodemption Island (and it IS a Brodemption island, they even said the word “bro” so it is confirmed) and announces what we all have been thinking: Coach is running the show. This is totally déjà vu for me. Everyone that went to Redemption Island on my season was all like, “Rob is running things. Why don’t these people vote him out?!” We all were called zombies and robots and now the same names are being thrown around. Edna’s a zombie, Rick and Brandon are zombies, Upolu is a cult, and so on. Why is it always zombies? Zombies are gross and eat peoples’ brains. What about some new terms now that we’re reaching our mid-twenties in Survivor life? I want to hear someone say: “Those people are a bunch of geese, always in that darn V” or “She’s such a carpenter ant.” It just has to be said with an uber straight face.
OZZY WINS, DUH. Ozzy wins the duel, sending Keith and Jim home (or to the Secret Double Redemption Island, stay tuned). I will miss Jim.
TE-TUNA. So back at the tribe awkwardly named after a fish, life goes on. Whitney has some great confessionals about the Upolu flock, and says “I don’t understand how these smart people can be so stupid” and can’t believe everyone thinks they are going to the end with Coach. That again sounds strikingly familiar. Awkward. In immunity challenge news, props to the Sophster for winning two immunity challenges!
ALBERT THE ANTI-GRANT- You have to hand it to Albert, he is definitely playing to win and I was so hoping that he, Cochran and Sophie would mix it up and align with Dawn and Whitney. Question: Instead of proposing to vote off Edna (who is probably a bigger goat than Coach) why not just vote out Coach while he has the idol? It turns out that Sophie wasn’t too hot on the idea, but in actuality it was probably smarter for her to stick with her original alliance. Either way, I was happy to see Albert thinking outside of the box and playing the game. Plus, he “honestly, truly, legitimately feels” things. Did everyone catch that phrase? Who says that?! Cute.
BYE BYE SAVAII- With a double elimination episode, the two Savaii sistas were voted out. Now what? We have the original Upolu and Cochran and things are bound to get interesting. What did you guys think? Will Mama Meehan dawnminate Redemption Island? What will Ozzy climb next? Will Cochran find a crack in the BRACES?

Rob Cesternino is flying solo as Nicole Cesternino is away in Vegas on a nursing conference. Rob talks with Erinn about a number of Survivor topics including:
